Itinerary
Day 1 :
Arrival in Nairobi and stay in a city hotel. Pack your stuff accordingly so that you will only be carrying what is absolutely necessary for each mountain.
Day 2 :
Drive north to Nanyuki town where you will meet the supporting crew. Drive further north to Sirimon gate where the trekking starts. Hike through the thin belt of rain forest before entering to the bamboo forest. in 2hrs time, you will be above the tree-line and into the moorland. Our tonight camp (3300m) is nested in the moorland with beautiful views of the lowland lights at night.
Day 3 :
Finally, the big day! Wake up a 2am. After a cup of tea / coffee and a handful of snacks, you will summit Pt. Lenana (4985m) at 3:15am to reach the summit in time for the African sunrise. After a short photo session and celebration, descend to Mintos hut for breakfast. Descend further down to Anabbas lodge for the night.
Day 4 :
Today you take a late breakfast and descend through the bamboo forest before meeting the driver and drive back to Nairobi arriving by 5pm. Stay in our base hotel on bed and breakfast basis.
Day 5 :
You will start the long journey to Tanzania via Tarakea border point. This is a long day and you will spend the night at Snow View hotel in Himo.
Day 6 :
Marangu gate to Mandara hut 2750m. Today you will start the day by have a short drive to Marangu gate. After paper work, you will hike for 5hrs to the camp. Lunch will be served en-route.
Day 7 :
Mandara hut 2750m to Horombo 3780. After breakfast, we ascend through the rolling alpine meadows enjoying the unique flora and unfettered views of Kibo and Mawezi peaks.
Day 8 :
Horombo 3780m to Kibo 4,700m After breakfast, you will continue on and enter the lunar landscape on the saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi. With lunch en-route, you will reach Kibo camp in the late afternoon.
Day 9 :
Kibo 4,700m to Uhuru Peak 5,895m back to Horombo 3780m The summit push is made at midnight in order to reach Gillman Point - (5680m) before dawn. At Gillman Point expect a most spectacular and unforgettable African sunrise. A further 1 hour will take you to the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak at 5895m. After the photo session, you will descend back to Kibo hut for breakfast. You will rest a bit and descend back to Horombo hut for the night.
Day 10 :
Horombo hut 3780m to Marangu. After a late breakfast, you will descend leisurely back to Marangu Gate. You will collect your certificate of achievement and transfer to Snow View hotel in Boma Ngombe village for the much-awaited hot shower.
Day 11 :
You will be transferred to Kilimanjaro international airport in time for your flight to Entebbe. You will be picked and transferred to Airport View hotel for the night.
Day 12 :
You will start the long journey to Nyakalenginja village early in the morning. After meeting the supporting crew, hike for 5-6hrs to Nyabitaba hut (2600m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 13 :
Hike for 6hrs to John Matte hut (3300m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 14 :
Hike for 5hrs to Bujuku hut (4000m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 15 :
Hike for 4hrs to Elena hut (4430m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 16 :
Summit Margherita peak (5109m) at 4am. Descend to Elena hut for breakfast. Descend back to Bujuku hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 17 :
Descend back to Nyabitaba hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 18 :
Leave the mountain to Nyakalengija village. After celebrations and bidding farewell to the supporting crew, meet the driver and drive back to Entebbe where the tour ends.
